For Researchers
Neureka brings together citizen scientists and brain‑health researchers by collecting real‑world data through app‑based games and check‑ins. On this page you’ll find information on how Neureka works, how to access existing datasets, collborations, how we govern data use, and links to our published works using Neureka data.
Neureka as a research tool
Neureka is a citizen‑science platform that has generated rich longitudinal data on cognition, mood and brain‑health risk factors from thousands of volunteers. Alongside game performance and self‑report measures, the platform can also capture selected passive signals from participants’ smartphones (for example, activity or sleep‑related patterns), creating opportunities to study brain health in the context of everyday behaviour. Instead of building your own app‑based study from scratch, you can request access to carefully curated datasets that have already underpinned peer‑reviewed work.
Accessing existing datasets
Researchers can request de‑identified datasets from Neureka studies that have already been analysed, published and peer‑reviewed. These datasets correspond to specific papers and come with variable dictionaries and documentation to support secondary analysis. To see which datasets are currently available, please first visit our Publications page and identify the study or studies most relevant to your question, then submit a data‑access request form referencing those publications.
Opportunities for collaboration
From time to time we work with external groups on new analyses or carefully selected additions to the Neureka platform. Because any change to the app involves substantial technical, contractual and governance work, we only pursue new collaborations where there is a strong scientific rationale, a clear fit with Neureka’s core mission, and sufficient resources to support the work. In some cases, this may include a project fee to cover development, data‑management and administrative costs. If you have a proposal that builds meaningfully on our existing challenges or published datasets, please get in touch by emailing {{email address}} with a short summary of your question, target population and proposed methods.
Data use and governance
All access to Neureka data is controlled and subject to a data‑use agreement. Datasets are de‑identified before sharing, may be restricted to specific analyses, and must be handled in line with our ethics approvals and data‑protection obligations. We do not offer unrestricted or fully open‑access downloads of individual‑level data.
